The Charites are usually described as the daughters of Zeus (Jupiter), and as three in number, namely, Euphrosyne, Aglaia, and Thalia. The names of the Charites sufficiently express their character. They were the goddesses who enhanced the enjoyments of life by refinement and gentleness.
