Adventists

Second Adventists, or Millerites, a sect founded by William Miller in 1831, on a belief in the speedy coming of Christ to reign on the earth. The idea of Christ's second coming is not original with the Adventists. The sect baptizes by immersion. One branch of the church called Seventh Day Adventists observes Saturday, or the seventh day, instead of the Hebrew Sabbath as a day of rest. The six branches of the church have in all about 2,283 churches, 1,505 ministers, and 92,505 communicants. See Sabbath
