Catherwood, Mary Hartwell

Mary Hartwell (1847-1902), an American novelist. She was born in Luray, Ohio, and died in Chicago. Her education was received at the Granville Female College. The romantic side of American history has furnished material for most of Mrs. Catherwood's novels. Although not her earliest novel, The Romance of Dollard was the first to bring fame to its writer. Other volumes worthy of mention are The White Islander, The Days of Jeanne D'Arc, Old Kaskaskia, The Lady of Fort St. John, and Lazare.
