Chimborazo
chim-bo-ra'zo, a snow-clad peak of Ecuador. It presents a magnificent spectacle from the Pacific, lifting its snowy hood 20,700 feet into midair. It attracted Humboldt's attention in 1802, and he attempted its ascent, but was unfortunate enough to choose the wrong path and was stopped by a chasm 500 feet wide.
