Churchill, Winston

Winston (1871-), a popular American novelist. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He was graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1894, and became an editor of the Army and Navy Journal. Later he held the position of managing editor of the Cosmopolitan. His best known works are the historical novels, Richard Carvel, The Crisis, The Celebrity, The Crossing, Mr. Crewe's Career, and Coniston. In his later writings Mr. Churchill has shown a grasp of the way in which legislatures and courts may be, and too often are, manipulated in favor of special interests.
