ko-ren', a novel by Madame de Stael, published in 1807. At the time of its appearance, it was called a "picturesque tour couched in the form of a novel," which well describes it. Success was immediate, and greater than the book would seem to merit. In its treatment of art and literature it was long regarded as authoritative.
