Delectable Mountains, The
The, in Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, a chain of mountains within sight of the Celestial City. The mountains were covered with "gardens and orchards, vineyards and fountains of water." Christian and Hopeful were welcomed and refreshed by the shepherds who fed their flocks there. From these mountains, too, the Pilgrims obtained their first faint glimpses of the gates of the City and "some of the glory of the place." See Bunyan
