a sour-juiced herb allied to rhubarb and buckwheat, as may be noted by the shape of the seed. Another ally is the sheep sorrel (not wood sorrel) of run-out fields. The leaves of the various kinds differ greatly in shape, but their margins are curly. Boys find a dock leaf, well rubbed in, a convenient remedy for the sting of a nettle. Decoctions of dock root are of value in medicine. The water dock, with its large leaves and acrid root, was held in reverence by the Druids.
