Duval

du-val', Claude, a noted English highwayman. He was born in Normandy in 1643 and was hanged at Tyburn, London, in 1670. Whether his exploits have been told aright or no, he has an unequaled record for relieving gentlemen of their purses. He was held to be a hero by the common people, and if tradition is to be credited, he was a favorite with the ladies of a wide circle. His alleged exploits have inspired many a bit of narrative to be found in the yellow literature of the past.
