Eros

e'ros, in Greek mythology, the god of love. According to the account of Hesiod, Eros was the offspring of Chaos, brother to the goddess Gaea. Later accounts represent Eros as the son of Aphrodite and Hermes. His characteristics, and the various stories which grew up about his name, were adopted by the Romans for their Cupid. See Cupid
