Falkirk

a Scottish burgh in Stirling-shire, twenty-four miles northwest from Edinburgh. It was celebrated for cattle fairs. Two noted battles were fought here. The forces of Wallace were defeated in 1298. January 17, 1746, Charles the Pretender defeated the English under General Hawley on Falkirk Moor.
