Frobisher

Martin, an English navigator. He was a native of Yorkshire, but of Welsh ancestry. In 1576 he commanded an expedition in search of the northwestern passage. One of his sailors brought home a piece of ore supposed to contain gold. Frobisher was sent out twice thereafter in search of the precious metal, but the ores brought home on his ships proved worthless. He served honorably in the conflict with the Great Armada. He died in 1594. Frobisher Bay on the southern end of Baffin Land was named in his honor.
