Gilia

an American flowering plant allied to phlox and the garden sweet william. Numerous species are found on the plains and in the mountains as far west as the Pacific coast. Gilias vary greatly from low matted plants clinging to the crevices of a mountain slope to tall, imposing meadow plants. The gilia of the west corresponds to the phlox of the east.
