Kellogg, Elijah

Elijah (1813-1901), an American writer for the young. Born at Portland, Maine, May 20, 1813. He was graduated at Bowdoin in 1840, and at Andover Theological Seminary three years later. He became pastor of the Congregational church at Harpswell, Maine, where the greater part of his subsequent life was passed. He wrote The Elm Island Series, Pleasant Cove Series, and Good Old Times Series. School boys will remember some of his short prose declamations. "Spartacus to the Gladiators," is one of them.
