Kilimanjaro
kil-e-man-ja-ro', the highest known mountain of Africa. It is situated on the north and south wrinkle or crease in the African continent. It is an extinct volcano, having two enormous craters connected by a bridge of lava. Geographically, the mountain is in German East Africa, about 200 miles from the Indian Ocean. It was ascended in 1889 by an explorer named Meyer. Height, 19,680 feet. Though with 4 deg. of the equator its summit is wrapped in eternal snow.
