Lilliput

lil'i-put, in Swift's Gulliver's Travels, the name of an imaginary kingdom, whose inhabitants were no larger than a man's finger. The Voyage to Lilliput is the first of the four voyages described, and is the most pleasing; for the satire is less bitter than in the latter part of the work. Gulliver's adventures among the pygmies are entertaining, the author succeeding by the use of minute details in making the account realistic. The Lilliputians regard Gulliver as their prisoner and are much interested in their giant captive whom they treat with great consideration, and at last, at his request, set at liberty.
