Louis

loo'e, a name of frequent occurrence in European history. Four of the successors of Charlemagne have the name. Eighteen kings of France were called Louis.

LOUIS I of France was also Louis I of the Roman Empire. He was a son of Charlemagne and was called "le Debonnaire," or "the Courteous." He was king of France from 814-840.
