Nennius

nen'i-us, a British historian of the eighth century. Little is known about him. He is said to have lived in Wales and to have been the author of Historia Britonum. This work gives an account, mythical of course, of the origin of the Britons, of the invasions of the Romans, and of the Saxon settlement. It includes also the stories of King Arthur, and especially a description of the twelve great battles in which Arthur overcame the Saxons. The manuscript is in Latin and is preserved in the British Museum. It has little historical value, but is important to the student of mythology and legend. See Arthur; King
