November

the eleventh month of the year. It receives its name from the Latin novem, or nine. It was the ninth month of the old Roman year. It is one of the four months having thirty days. In Great Britain November is considered a gloomy, unattractive month in which fogs may be expected. In the United States and Canada November is a cheerful month. It precedes the winter season and follows a season of hard labor. The crops are safe. The ingathering of harvest and of fruits is celebrated by a national holiday. The month is associated in memory with autumn leaves, hunting, Indian summer, Thanksgiving, outdoor sports, and, in the north, with early skating. In Australia and Argentina, November is, of course, a spring month.
