Palindrome

pal'in-drom, a word or sentence that reads the same from right to left or from left to right. Some famous palindromes are:

Adam's polite introduction of himself to Eve:
"Madam, I'm Adam."
Napoleon's vain regret:
"Able was I ere I saw Elba."
and John Taylor's confession:
"Lewd did I live and evil did I dwel."
It may be noted that did, Eve, and ere are word palindromes.
