Pansy

an enlarged, improved violet. The name is French, signifying a thought, as though a pansy had the power of thinking when one looks into its charming face. The old English name is heart's-ease, suggestive of a comforting sympathy with one's thoughts. Gerard, a botanist of the sixteenth century, says of the "pansie," its "colours--purple, blew, and yellow--are so excellently and orderly placed that they bring great delight to the beholders."
