Quiller-Couch, Arthur Thomas

kwil'er-kowch, Arthur Thomas (1863-), an English author. He was born at Cornwall, and was educated at Oxford. In 1887 he began his literary career in London, becoming a member of the staff of the Speaker, a liberal weekly. He used the pseudonym "Io" for some years. He has written many novels, short stories, and poems. He drew largely on Cornwall for local color. Among his books may be named The Laird's Luck, Old Fires and Profitable Ghosts, The White Wolf, Hatty Wesley, and The Ship of Stars.
