Redstart

a small bird of the warbler family. The male has a shining black head, neck, breast, and back. The ends of the tail and of the wings are black. The belly is white. The rest of the plumage is of a red salmon color, and determines the general color of the bird, giving it a flashing red appearance. The name is English, meaning redtail. No other bird in our woods feeds in so many ways. One moment it takes an insect on the wing like a flycatcher, the next it is scratching up old leaves like a quail, and in a trice it is examining a twig or bit of bark like a creeper. This restless, noticeable bird glues a nest together with saliva in the crotch of a sapling, five to twenty feet above the ground.
