Rossetti, Christina Georgina
Christina Georgina (1830-1894), an English poet. She was born in London and received her education there. She began writing when about twelve years of age, her first poems being printed by a private press owned by her grandfather. Her writing is largely of a devotional character. She has written also many beautiful poems for children. The Prince's Progress, Goblin Market, A Pageant, and Sing Song are among the titles of her publications. Of the following quotations the first is a bit of her philosophy of life; the second was written for children:
I'd laugh today--today is brief;
I would not wait for anything;
I'd use today that cannot last;
Be glad today and sing.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you;
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I;
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.
I would not wait for anything;
I'd use today that cannot last;
Be glad today and sing.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you;
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I;
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.
