Sagittarius

saj-i-ta ri-us, in astronomy, the ninth sign of the zodiac, into which the sun enters November 22d. The constellation comprises eight visible stars. In ancient mythology, the story runs that the centaur, Chiron, was changed into this constellation and named Sagittarius, which means the archer. On charts and celestial globes, the constellation is represented by a centaur just shooting an arrow from his bow. See Centaur; Chiron; Zodiac
