Simile

in rhetoric, a poetic or imaginative comparison in express terms of two things having some striking point or points of resemblance. Thus when Byron says: "The Assyrian came down like a wolf on the fold," he compares the swift, relentless descent of the Assyrian horde on helpless Judea to the attack of a ravening wolf on a flock of defenseless sheep.
