Tricolor

in heraldry, a flag composed of three colors nearly equal in mass. The term is applied especially to the flag of France adopted during the Revolution. It consists of three equal vertical parts, blue next to the mast, red at the extremity and white between. The colors, red, white, and blue, are the same as those of our own flag. It is the distribution of these into three equal oblong masses that entitles the French flag to the name of tricolor. See Flag; Union Jack
