Vaucluse

vo-kluz', a department of France. It lies between the lower Rhine and the Alps. The surface varies from low fertile plains in the west to lofty mountain spurs in the east. The department is famous for peaches, pears, almonds, figs, oranges, olives, wines, and honey. The mulberry tree thrives, affording food to the silkworm. See Avignon, the capital.
