Vichy

a town in the picturesque valley of Allier, France. Vichy was originally a Roman camp. It is now noted for warm springs, the waters of which have a temperature of from 59 degree. to 106 degree. F. Vichy water is charged with bicarbonate of soda. Vichy is the resort of persons afflicted with gout, rheumatism, diabetes, etc. Large hotels accommodate, it is said, 60,000 guests yearly. The waters are drunk on the spot and are bottled for export. Salt tablets obtained by evaporating the water are sold to the drug trade.
