Whitewash

a composition of quicklime and water used for coating rough surfaces. It is an excellent germ killer much used for the interior of chicken houses, etc. In the more thrifty parts of the Southern States, the cabins seen from a passing train are neatly whitewashed. A finer whitewash, made of whiting, glue, and water, is used for plastered walls. In the game of politics, a "whitewash" is a report of an investigating committee that hushes up a matter and reports favorably upon the wrong doings of a delinquent. See Lime
