Lantern Pinion

A pinion formed of two circular brass, or other metal plates, and connected by means of short steel wires.

LAP. A disc used in conjunction with a lathe for polishing or cutting. Laps are made of steel, copper, ivory, etc., and are charged with the cutting or polishing compounds. See Diamond Laps.
