Sapphire File
A piece of flat brass to which a piece of sapphire, previously flattened, is attached by means of shellac. It is used for working upon garnet pallets and other soft stones. The sapphire is ground upon a diamond mill, and its surface rendered coarse, or fine, according to the mill used. A strip of copper and diamantine is sometimes used instead of sapphire files.
