Vervain
A sacred herb with which the altars of Jupiter were sprinkled. Water containing vervain was also sprinkled in houses to cast out evil spirits. Among the druids particularly it was employed in connection with many forms of superstition. They gathered it at day-break, before the sun had risen. Later sorcerers followed the same usage, and the demonologists believe that in order to evoke demons it is necessary to be crowned with vervain. Vestments, Magical: (See Magic.) Vidya in Theosophy is the knowledge by which man on the Path can discern the true from the false and so direct his efforts aright by means of the mental faculties which he Villars has learnt to use. It is the antithesis of Avidya. (See Path, Avidya, and Theosophy.)
