Ames (HERMAN VANDENBURG an American)

HERMAN VANDENBURG, an American educator, born in Lancaster, Mass., in 1865. He graduated from Amherst College in 1888 and took post-graduate courses in Columbia and Harvard Universities. After three years on the faculty of the University of Michigan, he studied at Leipsic and Heidelberg. In 1896 he became assistant professor of history in Ohio State University, and in the following year he was appointed instructor in American constitutional history at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1908 he was appointed professor of American constitutional history in the same institution and in 1907 he became dean of the Graduate School. He gave lecture courses in other colleges and was a member of many important historical societies.

Among his popular writings are "Outline of Lectures on American Political (1908); "Syllabus of American Colonial History" (1912), etc.
