Assiniboia
the smallest of the four districts into which a portion of the Northwest Territories of Canada was divided in 1882. It lay immediately to the W. of Manitoba, with Saskatchewan and Alberta as its N. and W. boundaries.
It was intersected by the Saskatchewan (South Branch) and the Qu'Appelle rivers. It was abolished in 1905, and is now included in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta. Area, 89,535 square miles. Regina, on the Canadian Pacific railway, was the capital.
