Bad Lands
tracts of land in the N. W. part of the United States. The absence of vegetation enables the rains to wash clean the old lake beds, and in many instances to disclose remarkable fossils of extinct animals. They were first called Bad Lands (mauvaises terres) BAEYER by the French explorers in the region of the Black Hills in South Dakota.
