JOHN KENDRICK, American humorist and editor, born in Yonkers, N. Y., May 27, 1862. He graduated from Columbia College and was one of the founders of "Life," and has long been known for his light verse and humorous stories, among which may be mentioned "Coffee and Repartee" (New York, 1886); "Mr. Bonaparte of Corsica" (1895); "Water Ghost and Other Stories" (1896); "The Bicyclers and Other Farces" (1896); "A Houseboat on the Styx" (1896); "The Pursuit of the Houseboat" (1897); "Foothills of Parnassus" (1914). He was at various times editor of "Harper's Weekly" (1900); "Metropolitan" (1903); "Puck" (1904).
