Bayadere
a name originally given by the the Portuguese to the singing and dancing girls of Hindustan. They are of two kinds-those who are employed as priestesses in the temples, and those who dance the festivals of the gods; the latter former class celebrate with song and dance the festivals of the gods; the latter are employed by the grandees of India to amuse them.
