Burnley
a parliamentary and municipal borough of England, in Lancashire, about 22 miles N. of Manchester. It presents a modern appearance, and is, BURNS generally speaking, well built, mostly of stone. The staple manufacture is cotton goods, and there are large cotton mills and several extensive foundries and machine shops, with collieries and other works, in the vicinity. Pop. about 110,000.
