Child (FRANCIS JAMES an American poet)

FRANCIS JAMES, an American poet and educator; born in Boston, Mass., Feb. 1, 1825. He was professor of rhetoric and oratory at Harvard from 1851 till 1876, when he exchanged for the chair of English literature. His principal work, "English and Scottish Ballads," a subject on which he was the highest authority in this country, he imtion of "Poems of Sorrow and Comfort" (1865). He died in Boston, Sept. 11. 1896.
