Croly (HERBERT an American author)

HERBERT, an American author, born in New York in 1869. He studied at the College of the City of New York and at Harvard University. From 1900 to 1906 he was editor of the "Architectural Record," and from 1914 was editor of the "New Republic." He was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He wrote "Promise of American Life" (1909); "Life of Marcus Alonzo Hanna" (1912); and "Progressive Democracy" (1914).
