Dalton (City in and the countyseat)

a city in and the countyseat of Whitfield co., Ga.; on the Southern and the Western and Atlantic railroads; 100 miles N. W. of Atlanta. It DALTON is a winter and summer health resort, and has canning factories, cotton compresses, flour mills, foundries and machine shops, public schools, weekly newspapers, a National bank, etc. It was a place of strategic importance and was nearly destroyed during the Civil War.
