Defamation

the act of defaming or slandering; the false and malicious uttering of slanderous words with a view to damage the character, reputation, or business of another; slander, calumny, libel. Defamation of character is actionable either by indictment or by action; but to support an action it is necessary that the plaintiff should aver some particular damage to have happened to him.
