DENAIN (dě-năn'), a town of northern France, in the department of Nord, 6 miles from Valenciennes . It stands in the center of a coal field, and has iron works, etc. A great victory was gained here in 1712 by the French under Villars over the allies under Eugene and Albemarle. Pop. (1906) 23,950.
