Dentin
or DENTINE, a bony tissue that makes up most of the body of a tooth. Enclosed by the dentine is the tooth pulp (largely vascular and nerve tissue), and microscopic tubular structures in in the dentine open into this pulp cavity. In the exposed part, the dentine is covered on the outer side by enamel; in the unexposed part, by tooth cement.
