Dowden
EDWARD, an Irish poet and historian; born in Cork, May 3, 1843. He was Professor of English Literature in Trinity College, Dublin.
He published a volume of "Poems" (1876); his other writing are biological and critical, e. g., "Shakespeare, his Mind and Art" (1872), a work of high authority, which reached a fifth edition (1887) and has been translated into French Literature" (1897) "Life of German; "Southey" (1879); "Life of Percy Bysshe Shelley" (1886); "Studies 7); "Introducin tion to Shakespeare" (1893); "Primer of her husband's real property after his widow acquires in a certain portion of DOWER, the estate for life which a Browning" (1904); "Montayne" (1903); "Essays" (1910).
