Drinkwater
JOHN, an English poet and critic, born in 1882. He was educated in the Oxford High School and spent 12 years in business. He was one of the founders of The Pilgrim Players and for several years managed that company at the Birmingham Repertory Theater. He wrote many plays, some of which were extremely successful. These included: "Rebellion" (1914); "Swords and Ploughshares" (1915); "Abraham Lincoln" (1919). The latter play was very successful both in England and in the United States. In addition to his plays he wrote several books on biography and contributed verse and prose to periodicals.
