Dudley (LORD GUILDFORD son of John)

LORD GUILDFORD, son of John, Duke of Northumberland, was married in 1553 to Lady Jane Grey, whose claim to the throne the duke intended to assert on the death of Edward VI. On the failure of the plot Lord Guildford was condemned to death, but the sentence was not carried into effect till the insurrection of Wyatt induced DUDLEY dated the court. As society became more polished duels became more frequent, Mary to order his immediate execution ly to the French ideas that then inun- DUDLEY, JOHN, Duke of North- and they were never more numerous than in the reign of George III. Among the principals in the fatal duels of this pe- riod were Charles James Fox, Sheridan, (1554).
