El Centro

a city of California in Imperial co. It is on the Southern Pacific, the Holton Interurban, and the San Diego and Arizona railroads. It is the center of an important agricultural and fruit-growing region which has been greatly developed in recent years. Its industries include a cottonseed oil mill, cotton gins, warehouses, and an ice plant. It has excellent schools, hotels, churches, and four banks. Pop. (1910) 1,610; (1920) 5,464.
