German
pertaining or relating to Germany; or a native or inhabitant of Germany. Also the language of the higher and S. parts of Germany; the literary language of the whole country.
Old High German was spoken from the 8th to the 12th century; Middle High German from the 12th to the 15th century; Modern High German is the existing form. Low German is the name for a group of dialects spoken in northern Germany, Netherlands, and Holland.
